Lorie Germain worked for 5 years as a Mental Health Rehabilitation Specialist 1, Behavioral Technician 2, specializing in sexually abused children. She also spent time working with children on a Crisis unit. While she found the work to be rewarding, she also found it to be heartbreaking.
After 5 years she reached a point in her career that made her decide to take some time off and spend it with her two children. After a year off she found that the idea of going back to work, working odd shifts and having a limited amount of time with her family, not to be worth it.
Six years after the day she left that career behind, she finds herself living in a small rural community in Down East Maine. She spends her time with not just her two oldest daughters ages 13 and 8, two more daughters aging 3 and 4 months, a son who is 2, Joe-the love of her life, a cat and a brand new puppy.
While there are times that she wishes to return to the work field, she feels blessed to be able to spend the time with her children. Helping them learn, not missing the first's (steps, words, date etc.) and helping them to grow into healthy, responsible, loving adults.
